Miracle pull out 2-1 win

1 min read

Nick Romero arrived in Fort Myers from Beloit hitting .222 on the season and just .125 in his last 10 games, but put all of that behind him with a ninth-inning RBI single to lift the Miracle to a 2-1 victory over the St. Lucie Mets Thursday at Hammond Stadium.

Batting with runners at the corners and two outs in the ninth inning, the San Diego State product hit a sharp grounder to first base. Ike Davis dove to knock it down, but pitcher Emary Frederick was late in covering the bag, and Davis’ desperation toss landed harmlessly in the infield grass.

Chris Parmelee, who led off the inning with a single, scored the winning run from third base. The Miracle snapped a two-game losing streak with the walk-off. Parmelee finished 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Mark Dolenc had a double and scored a run.

Romero, making his Advanced-A debut with the Miracle (25-14), was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Carlos Gutierrez pitches for the Miracle in Friday night’s series finale.
