Mets conquer Miracle 5-2
The St. Lucie Mets hadn’t won against the Fort Myers Miracle since April 18th, but after seven straight Miracle wins the Mets got on the winning side with a 5-2 victory Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium.
Jenrry Mejia (3-1) turned in his second straight dominating performance in two games against the Miracle, after Jose Rosario beat the Miracle Tuesday. Mejia lowered his ERA to 1.82 after a seven-inning, three-hit, one-run outing. He walked just one and struck out seven.
Tyler Robertson (2-1) continued to pitch well for the Miracle, but suffered his first loss of the season. Robertson went six innings with six hits, three runs (one unearned), three walks, and three strikeouts.
Four different Mets had two-hit games, including Hector Pellot, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Zach Lutz, and Carlos Guzman.
Ben Revere had the only multihit game for the Miracle (24-14) as he finished 2-for-4 with one RBI. Chris Parmelee was 1-for-3 with the only extra-base hit off Mejia and the Mets, a fifth-inning double.
The Mets and Miracle meet again Thursday night at Hammond Stadium for the second game of the series.
Diamond notes: Outfielder Ben Revere was named the Florida State League Player of the Week for May 11-17.
Revere, 21, hit .625 (10-for-16) and had a .825 slugging percentage, scored five runs and stole two bases over four games during the week.
The 2007 first-round pick of the Minnesota Twins leads the league with a .346 batting average, has 19 RBI and 16 stolen bases. He also was the Twins’ Minor League Player of the Year in 2008 at Beloit as well as the Midwest League Player of the Year and Prospect of the Year.
