Ave Maria signs 3rd Lauderdale recruit
A third student-athlete from the greater Fort Lauderdale area has signed with Ave Maria University’s women’s softball team, which begins play in the next academic year.
Janet Holtfreter of Deerfield Beach, a pitcher at Cardinal Gibbons High School, signed Tuesday. As a senior, Holtfreter was 9-7, and threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 1-0 win in a Class 4A district playoff game.
Kristin Roberts of Davie and Melissa Tejeda of Miramar, both from Archbishop McCarthy High School signed recently with AMU.
Women’s softball is one of nine NAIA sports teams that AMU will field in the 2009-10 academic year.
