NFM arrives in Plant City
PLANT CITY — The North Fort Myers Red Knights are hours away from playing in their first ever state semifinal softball game. Exactly how many hours remains a mystery.
Rain on Tuesday pushed back two of the scheduled FHSAA Finals contests to Wednesday, meaning six games are being played Wednesday instead of four.
The Red Knights (27-3) were scheduled to face Venice (22-7) in the first of two Class 5A Semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday, but first pitch now is expected around 6-6:30 p.m. The North-Venice game follows the fourth game of the day, a Class 2A semifinal between Moore Haven and Westminster Christian.
“We may stretch and warm-up some but then have to wait around for that game to finish,” said North coach Jeff Miner as his team arrived in Plant City.
Though the delay causes a slight concern, the Knights are where they wanted to be when the season began. The winner of the North-Venice game advances to Thursday’s 5A championship.
