FGCU picks Kavanagh to be new AD
Florida Gulf Coast University President Wilson G. Bradshaw Thursday announced the appointment of Kenneth Kavanagh as the school’s new athletic director.
Kavanagh was one of four finalists from a national search. He currently is the athletic director at Bradley University.
“I am deeply honored to have been selected as athletic director by President Bradshaw,” Kavanagh said in a prepared statement. “In turn, our entire family is extremely excited to be joining the FGCU community and such a vibrant place to live.”
Kavanagh will receive an annual salary of $170,000 and a five-year contract, effective June 15, 2009.
“We had a very strong pool of candidates with an outstanding slate of finalists, and I believe Ken Kavanagh is the person to take our successful athletics program into the future,” said Bradshaw.
Kavanagh’s intercollegiate athletic experience includes serving as senior associate athletic director and assistant athletic director at Bowling Green State University in Ohio from 1987 to 1996.
He also was a graduate assistant at Notre Dame and director of events and team travel and assistant manager of contests and promotions at Yale University.
Kavanagh holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Notre Dame and a Bachelor of Science, Magna Cum Laude, from Boston College.
“I eagerly anticipate getting to know the outstanding coaches, student-athletes, donors, administrative and support staff who have contributed to an overall environment that makes this position so valued,” said Kavanagh.
