Cats face tough test
The Florida Firecats hit the road this weekend to face a rare opponent – the Arkansas Twisters.
It’s only the second time in team history that the Firecats have been to Arkansas, and they have much to prove after a 66-48 victory over the Corpus Christi Sharks.
“Getting our overall record over .500 right now would be huge,” said Firecats coach Kevin Bouis. “We are still a very young team, particularly on defense. In each of our wins it’s been either the defense or the offense which carried us. Last week was the first time we had great effort on both sides of the ball to help get us the win. Getting a win (Saturday) over Arkansas would be big in that it would help solidify what he built on last week.”
The building process has been tough for the Firecats (3-3), who currently are 1-2 on the road this season. Fortunately, the Cats aren’t out of the running in the South Division standings, yet.
“With the divisional race so tight and with six games against division teams left on the schedule, every game is that much bigger,” said Bouis.
Some good news is the Firecats are as healthy as they have been all season. Wideout Chris McKinney played for the first time in three weeks against the Sharks, snagging five TDs and more than 180 yards. The return of Greg Walls and Raymond James to the lines, paid immediate dividends last week as the defense forced four turnovers and the offensive line gave up just one sack.
Twisters (4-2) QB Kyle Rowley is a real test for the Cats’ secondary. He threw for 478 yards last weekend.
The Cats return to Germain Arena May 16th to face the Spokane Shock.
