FGCU whips SCU 14-6
The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team recorded 14 hits to take game one of a three-game weekend series against USC Upstate 14-6 Friday night at Swanson Stadium.
The win lifts the Eagles to 23-16 (14-5 A-Sun), and the Spartans fall to 10-31 (3-19 A-Sun).
Chris Sale (6-3) threw seven innings, allowing only one unearned run on four hits, and struck out seven. Ryan Fern (1-6) was tagged with the loss after surrendering 10 runs on 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. In the third, Sale pitched out of the jam thanks to an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.
The Eagles added three runs in the third, four more in the fourth and two in the sixth to extend the lead to 10-1.
Eight different Eagles recorded RBIs in the game, and all but one starter registered a hit.
The teams wrap up the three-game series Saturday with a doubleheader.
