The Second Annual Ida Baker Indoor Soccer Tournament produced some exciting action during the two-day event, but the championship ultimately came down to the host school.

The Bulldogs split their players into two teams for the 6-on-6 event and both of their teams reached the championship game with the Los Parceros Bulldogs defeating the Baker Mizfitz, 1-0.

Daniel Sharkey scored the game-winning goal. The winning team consisted of Sharkey, Harvey Rincon, Jose and Carlos Zuniga, Brian Leon and Daniel Arango. The Mizfits runner-up team featured Joe Johnson, Nick Presti, Matt Fitzpatrick, Anthony Frederick, Jeff Shaw and Brandon Stevens.

The 16-team field began play Friday and the tournament concluded Saturday. Gateway Charter topped North Port 1-0 in the third-place game.

“It was another success, a tremendous tournament,” Baker coach Mick Whitewood said. “All the schools were represented very well. It’s getting to the point where next year it’s going to be stretched out over the entire weekend.”
