Miracle surge past Mets, 6-4
The Fort Myers Miracle put together a three-run rally in the ninth inning to defeat the St. Lucie Mets 4-2 Sunday in the final game of the series.
Facing Mets closer Jose De La Torre, Mark Dolenc singled to lead off the ninth for the Miracle (6-4) and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Infielder Chris Cates singled up the middle to score the tying run right before Ben Revere followed with another single to center, scoring Cates. Revere scored on an RBI by Joe Benson, adding to the rally.
Steve Hirschfeld (1-0) earned the win in relief after retiring St. Lucie in order in the eighth. Alex Burnett worked the ninth for the save.
The Miracle took a one-run lead into the fifth on a wild pitch from starter Eric Niesen. Henry Arias, though, gave up two solo homers to Reese Havens and Francisco Pena in the sixth, forcing the Miracle to come from behind.
Carlos Gutierrez started and worked four innings. He surrendered two hits and two walks, and struck out three.
The Miracle returns to action Tuesday when they open a three-game series with the Palm Beach Cardinals at Hammond Stadium.
