Daniel Alimonti had two hits for the Tritons, including a triple after Anthony Santo doubled in a two-run first-inning rally.

Mariner’s Michael Zunino won the home run derby, hitting seven out of the park in the final round. Baker’s Dustin Mishka and Borchering advanced to the final round with six and five homers, respectively, in the first round. Both hit just one in the final round.

Tennis

District 3A-12: The high hopes entering the final day of district tennis came crashing down rather quickly for the Cape High Seahawks Wednesday at FGCU.

Senior Renee Deane was beaten 6-3, 6-4 by Gulf Coast’s Amy Grossklag in the No. 1 singles finals, leaving Deane’s season record at 17-1. Aimee Dolorfino (No. 3), Kaitlyn Dampier (No. 4) and Ella Baar (No. 5) also lost in singles semifinals.

Deane and Dampier (No. 1) likewise lost in the doubles semifinals, as did Dolorfino and Danielle Carter (No. 2).

“We’re a young team and despite today (results), we did much better than last year,” said Seahawks coach Betty Henderson.

Gulf Coast and Barron Collier are tied (23-23) atop the girls’ team standings with the two doubles finals to be played Thursday between the two schools. Cape wound up tied for third overall.

Joining Grossklag as singles champions are: Khloe Smith (GC), Lindsey Raymond (Barron Collier), Kalina (BC) and Sophie Wyman (BC).

The Seahawk boys also lost every match they played Wednesday.

Arthemon Lis was ousted 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles semifinals and Dylon Dixon fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

In No. 1 doubles, Joel Silverberg and Dixon lost to Mariner’s Aaron Smith and Tim Connelly 6-4, 7-5 in the second round.

Lis and Alex Ragonese at No. 2 doubles met a similar fate, falling 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 in the second round.

Barron Collier edged Fort Myers 25-24 in the team standings while the Seahawks had to settle for a sixth-place tie with Mariner.

Singles champions are: Mike Wardell (Ft. Myers), George Johnson (BC), Ryan Zanette (BC), Dominic Springer (BC) and Ryan Stielow (BC). Fort Myers won both doubles finals over Barron Collier by default.
