University of Florida recruit Bobby Borchering launched his 10th home run of the season, a three-run blast in the fifth, and the Bishop Verot Vikings stormed past the North Fort Myers 17-2 Monday night. It was the opening day of play at the Bud Roth Tournament at Terry Park in Fort Myers.

The Vikings (8-12) took command with five runs in the second and third innings and six more in the fifth. Kevin Reynolds had three hits, including a triple. Freshman Josh Garcia added three hits. D.J. Schleicher pitched all five innings for the win.

The Red Knights (6-13) got an RBI double from R.J. Curtis.

n Mariner 7, Flagler Palm Coast 1: Ryan Schneider had a triple and Anthony Santo and Bryan O’Connor delivered RBI doubles as the Tritons topped Flagler Palm Coast on the opening day of the Bud Roth Tournament at Terry Park.

Ryan Patton scattered seven hits and struck out five, picking up the win on the mound. Michael Zunino had four singles for the Tritons (18-2).

The Tritons play Bishop Verot Tuesday at Terry Park.

Freshman Pablo Matos picked up his first win on the mound. He worked four innings and fanned five.

Both of the home runs came in a six-run fourth inning outburst. Marco LoSauro (3-for-4), Taylor Renegar (2-for-4) and Ben Abdil (2-for-2) contributed to the attack.

The Gators (10-10) play at North Port Wednesday.

The Bulldogs (8-11) scored four in the first and after Eustis cut the lead to 4-3, the Bulldogs tacked on four more in the fifth.

Matt Mattia went five innings for the Bulldogs, recording the win.

The Bulldogs play Cypress Lake Tuesday.
