Prep Report: Cougars squeeze by Gators
It was a day of rallies for both Island Coast and Canterbury Thursday afternoon at Brooks Park.
The biggest and best rally of the game was by Island Coast, a five-run uprising in the seventh inning to tie the game, but it was not to be.
Canterbury had one rally left, pushing across the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a suicide squeeze play to beat the Gators 10-9.
The Gators (6-12) got on the board first with two runs in the second, but the Cougars tied it in the third.
The Cougars were in control with seven runs over three innings and went into the seventh with a 9-4 advantage. That’s when the Gators got back in it.
The five-run rally that tied the game and sent it into the extra inning was highlighted by Marco LoSauro’s two-run triple.
After a leadoff walk in the eighth, a sacrifice bunt and a passed ball put the winning run on third base for the Cougars. Dillon Knox then executed the suicide squeeze play to win it.
LoSauro finished 2-for-5, but was saddled with his fourth loss with two innings of relief for the Gators. Jordan Moody was 2-for-4 with a solo homer in the fifth.
The Gators take on Southwest Florida Christian at 6 p.m. Monday.
