Blades’ Leggio named goalie of the week

Florida Everblades rookie David Leggio Thursday was named the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Week for the regular season’s final week.

It is the second time this season the 24-year-old has won the award, also achieving the feat the week of Jan. 12-18.

Leggio was a perfect 3-0-0 during the final week with a goals-against average of 1.33, and a save percentage of .933 as he helped the Blades finish on an eight-game winning streak. Leggio finished the regular season 5-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.78 and a save percentage of .940 in his last five starts and 10-1-2 with a goals-against average of 2.05 and save percentage of .921 in his last 13 games.

Leggio, who is under contract to Albany of the American Hockey League, closed out the season 27-7-3 and led the ECHL with a goals-against average of 2.26, while his four shutouts ties him for third.

Leggio and the Everblades play the first two games of the Kelly Cup playoffs Friday and Saturday nights against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
