Prep report: Red Knights reach 20

After winning three of four games in the Kissimmee Klassic high school softball tournament, the North Fort Myers Red Knights secured the first 20-win season in school history.

The Red Knights (20-3) concluded tournament play Saturday, picking up an 8-0 victory over Miami Southwest and a 12-5 win over Barron Collier. They began play Thursday with a 5-0 win over FSU High. Their only setback was a 6-5 loss to Tampa Riverview Friday night.

The Red Knights led Riverview 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh before surrendering a walk-off two-run homer. Lexi Schlotter sparked the North offense, going 4-for-4 at the plate.

In the shutout win over Miami Southwest, Jackie Owen pitched all seven innings, allowing three hits. She went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Kayla Ramey (3-for-4) and Katrissa Rowell (2-for-3) contributed to the attack.

The Red Knights got more offense in their victory over Barron Collier. Mariah Fernandez had two doubles and a triple and Rowell finished 3-for-4 with a double. Freshman Darienne Boyden went six innings on the mound, improving to 4-0.

Owen’s two victories in the tournament improved her record to 16-3.

The Red Knights host the LCAC Championship Game April 16 against Riverdale.

Rugby

The Cape Blackhawks gave up a penalty kick with under five minutes remaining and fell to the Tampa Barbarians 15-12 Saturday in the opening round of the state rugby playoffs.

Nick Fernandez scored the five-point try for the Blackhawks in the second half, which tied the game, 12-12. The Blackhawks also scored in the first half on a try by Ryan Pigott and conversion by Tyler Aadland.

The Blackhawks concluded their season with a 6-3 record.

Baseball

Seacrest Country Day 5, Island Coast 4: Sam Boza smacked a two-run home run in the first inning and host Seacrest Country Day edged Island Coast Saturday.

The Gators (8-9) were sparked by Marco LoSauro, who had two hits, including a double.

The Gators play at Gateway Charter Monday at 1 p.m.

Fort Myers 7, Ida Baker 6: The visiting Bulldogs rallied but then fell to the host Green Wave in eight innings Saturday.

Drew Levally delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Wave after the Bulldogs had scored two in the seventh to tie and one in the top of the eighth.

Dustin Mishka went 2-for-4 with a double for the Bulldogs (7-12). Miles Rubinski, Ryan Rogowski and Matt Ringland also had doubles.
