President’s Cup champs

The U16 girls’ Island Coast Soccer Alliance “Crocs” team captured the Florida Youth Soccer Association division 1 President’s Cup championship last Sunday in Merritt Island with two shutout victories. The Crocs qualified by winning the Southwest Florida Regional tournament in February and earned the right to represent Florida at the Southern U.S. Region III Championship tournament June 14-16 in South Carolina. Team members, representing eight area high schools, include Amber Law, Rebecca Smith, Amy Van Pelt, Devon Klyce, Kady Otzko, Kelly Fuhrman, McKenna Duquette, Erin Persinger, Kaitlyn Souza, Carrie McDonald, Kelsea Whitaker, Olivia Skaff, Jillian Gutstein, Brittney Stutz, and coached by Chris Mathurin. The Crocs are the first girls’ team in many years to represent Southwest Florida in the Region III President’s Southeastern tournament.
