Blades drop Sea Wolves 3-1
The Florida Everblades continued their hot streak Friday night by defeating the Mississippi Sea Wolves 3-1 in front of almost 5,900 fans at Germain Arena.
The win extends the Everblades’ winning streak to seven in a row, but in the coaches’ eyes it doesn’t necessarily mean they are peaking as the playoffs are about to start.
“I just think we were trying to play safe,” Blades coach Malcolm Cameron said. “As a team, I think we were trying to not get hurt and maybe not be as assertive as we would have been in other games. That’s not a knock on our team by any stretch, that’s just human nature at this time of year given that we have everything wrapped up.”
The Sea Wolves scores in just under eight minutes when former Everblade Kyle McAllister beat net minder David Leggio (26 saves).
A.J. Thelen got the Blades on the board with the tying goal, taking a feed from Kevin Baker.
As in their last two games, the Blades dominated the second period. Andrew Sweetland scored near the midway mark and, with just one second remaining the period, Jacob Mcflikier added his 10th goal in just nine games. The defense dominated the rest of the way, allowing the Wolves just 16 shots.
Florida (48-17-5) and Mississippi (28-34-8) close out the regular season Saturday night at Germain Arena.
