Prep Report: Lacrosse: Verot tops Cape 16-15
The Cape Coral Seahawks have played three memorable lacrosse matches against the Bishop Verot Vikings this season. Each has produced the same unpleasant outcome for the Seahawks.
After winning in double overtime and by two goals in the two previous meetings, the Vikings prevailed 16-15 Tuesday night at Viking Stadium, eliminating the Seahawks from the district playoffs.
“We were winning most of the first half and then it became a back-and-forth game in the second half,” Seahawks coach Laurie Rinehart said. “It was a tough loss, but the girls played really well.”
Senior Alex Gibson scored five goals to lead the Seahawks. Freshman Joanna Russell, junior Jamie Whetsell and senior Carly Boscarino each added three goals, and sophomore Chloe Hutchins had one.
The Seahawks (5-6) concluded their third lacrosse season and have made the district playoffs each year.
The Vikings take on Fort Myers in the district championship.
