4 min read

Though their string of five consecutive shutouts came to an end Saturday night, the Mariner Tritons used their power hitting to defeat host and rival Cape Coral, 16-5, in high school baseball action. It’s the second victory of the season for the Tritons over the Seahawks.

Senior Michael Zunino and sophomore Walter Cleary launched two-run homers in the third inning, and senior Anthony Santo added a homer in the seventh. Santo finished 3-for-5 at the plate. Alex Santana had two hits and drove in four runs.

The Tritons (8-0) posted a 6-0 victory over the Seahawks earlier this season and had not allowed a run in 28 innings until the Seahawks (1-9) put three on the board in the bottom of the second.

Derek Miloff sparked the Seahawks with a double and Brian Heminger came through with a two-run double.

With the score tied 3-3, the Tritons quickly answered with six runs in the third. Zunino smacked his fourth homer of the season and Cleary added his second in as many games.
