Penn St. ends FGCU streak

Penn State outslugged Florida Gulf Coast at Swanson Stadium Wednesday, winning 18-16 to earn at split of the two-game series.

Senior Ryan Horton got his first start for FGCU in almost a year and worked three innings, giving up two runs on four hits. Sophomore Tim Roberson led the Eagles (9-6) going 4-for-6 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored. Mikel Alvarez went 4-for-6 with four runs scored. Robert Greene (2-for-4) had a double, a home run and four RBI.

Ryan Ignas got the win in relief for the Nittany Lions (6-6) despite allowing seven runs on five hits.

Six-run rallies in the sixth and eighth innings put the Nittany Lions ahead 15-11. A four-run rally in the ninth came up short for the Eagles, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end.

The Eagles travel to Jacksonville for a weekend series with North Florida.
