Everblades record fourth straight win, 3-1
As the Florida Everblades begin their stretch run to the playoffs, they know that wins won’t come easy.
Despite a blistering 48 shots on goal Friday night, the Everblades managed to defeat the Mississippi Sea Wolves 3-1 at Germain Arena.
The game started the same way many of their games have this year, with a slow first period.
Despite outshooting the Sea wolves by a 2-to-1 margin in the opening period, none found the net.
Blades coach Malcolm Cameron said, “We haven’t seen (Mississippi) in a few months, so that first few minutes of the game was a feeling-out process, but once we got a couple of shifts going there, we turned the tide.”
The Blades got on the board midway through the second period on Mark Lee’s 11th goal of the season. Lee fired the puck at Sea Wolves goaltender Ryan Munce (46 saves) on the rebound from Kevin Baker’s miss.
Munce faced 34 shots through two periods, turning away all but the one goal.
In the end, the Blades’ defense and scoring ability that outlasted Munce’s netminding.
The Blades were scored twice in the third period – one Earnie Hartlieb and an empty netter by Doug O’Brien with just over a minute to play.
The Blades (39-16-3) and Sea Wolves (25-26-7) skate again Saturday night.
