Prep Report: Panthers gouge Seahawks

The Cypress Lake Panthers struck for seven runs in the third inning to break a one-run game wide open and added eight more in the fifth to pound Cape Coral 17-2 in five innings.

The Seahawks (1-6) were limited to two runs on three base hits heading into Friday’s showdown at crosstown rival Mariner.

Dunbar 5, Island Coast 2: Two two-run innings carried Dunbar past Island Coast.

Jordan Moody pitched seven innings, scattering six hits and two earned runs while striking out nine, but was done-in by six Gators errors.

The Gators (2-5) host Southwest Florida Christian Thursday night.

Cape Coral 13, Cypress Lake 1: Tara Higgins belted a two-run home run in the second inning to help power Cape Coral to victory over Cypress Lake Wednesday.

Higgins’ blast, her first of the year, was one of just two hits for the Seahawks, who benefitted from more than a dozen walks and five Panthers fielding errors. Brenna Harkins struck out seven in 4 1/2 innings to earn the victory.

The Seahawks (4-4) play at Mariner Friday.

Ida Baker 7, Fort Myers 2: Katie Rieser and Kayla Vetter combined to limit Fort Myers to five hits as the Bulldogs knocked off the Green Wave.

Caitlin Holloway was 4-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI while Vetter was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Bulldogs, who collected 12 total base hits.

Baker (6-2) visits Gulf Coast Friday.
