Prep report: Tritons post 10-0 win, again

There were no signs of rust for the Mariner Tritons Friday night.

Despite having a week layoff after a 10-0 triumph over Port Charlotte Feb. 20, the Tritons cruised past Barron Collier by the same score Friday in high school baseball action.

Michael Zunino connected on two solo home runs and Bryan O’Connor capped the scoring with a walk-off double in the fifth, forcing the 10-run rule.

O’Connor went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Anthony Santo finished 2-for-4 with a double.

Senior Ryan Schneider pitched his first career no-hitter. He walked six batters but finished with five strikeouts, and was backed by some timely double plays.

The Tritons (4-0) visit East Lee County Tuesday.

n Ida Baker 4, Cape Coral 3: Host Baker denied Cape Coral its first win of the season, rallying from a 3-0 deficit.

Dustin Mishka went 3-for-3 with a double and three stolen bases. He sparked the Bulldogs throughout the game, including in the bottom of the fourth.

Mishka doubled, stole third and scored on an RBI single by Jake York. The comeback continued in the fifth and sixth innings, with Mike Gulotta putting the Bulldogs ahead for good with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Blake Fraser went 2-for-3 with a double for the Bulldogs (4-2), who improved to 2-0 in District 5A-15 play. They play at Cypress Lake Tuesday. Cape (0-5) hosts Lehigh Tuesday.

Softball

n Ida Baker 6, Cape Coral 0: After being slowed by an injury in the first few games, senior Jamie Ross returned to the lineup and sparked Baker’s win over host Cape Coral.

Ross doubled and drove in three runs. Her sister, freshman Alexis Ross, had three hits. In all, seven Baker players finished with multiple hits. Allie Hare added two RBI.

Brittney Cornelius led the Seahawks, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.

Baker (4-2) plays at Cypress Lake Tuesday. Cape (1-4) hosts Lehigh.

n Barron Collier 10, Mariner 2: Samantha Rapp had a double, Abby Willis went 2-for-3, but the host Tritons were unable to stop Barron Collier.

The Cougars had 13 hits and scored four in the third inning and three in the fourth to break the game open.

Girls Tennis

n Cape Coral 5, Mariner 2: The host Seahawks improved to 4-0 with a victory over rival Mariner.

Senior Renee Deane won in straight sets at No. 1 singles. Danielle Carter, Caitlyn Dampier and Ella Baar also won in singles matches.

Mariner’s Adrienne Wadsworth won in straight sets in singles and teamed with Madison Fletcher for a victory in doubles.

Amanda Teets picked up a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles. Kenzi Pulotto and Heather Dubrosky teamed up for a doubles win for the Gators.
