Prep report: Cape Rugby storms past Lely 51-0

Led by Felix Solano and Austin Luby, the Cape Blackhawks Rugby Team demolished Lely 51-0 Saturday at Estero Sports Park.

Solano and Luby each converted two trys for the Blackhawks (4-1).

Trys were also recorded by William Earp, Nick Fernandez, Walter Gutierrez, Ryan Cerbone and Matt Russell. Russell was playing in his first game of the season.

The Blackhawks are hosting a “rugby night” fundraiser Wednesday at Il Primo Pizza and Wings in Cape Coral, with 10 percent of the proceeds going to the rugby program.

North Fort Myers junior Brady Logan finished in third place in Saturday’s Class 2A FHSAA State Finals in Lakeland.

Logan, who competes at 103 pounds, suffered a loss in the semifinals but rebounded to win two more matches, including a consolation final against Tyler Smith of George Jenkins. Logan won a 6-2 decision against Smith.
