Prep Report: BC pulls away to nip Baker
Gabe Rodriguez scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the opening quarter, but Barron Collier made the necessary adjustments and defeated the Ida Baker Bulldogs 63-59 Friday night at Baker.
After Rodriguez burned the Cougars early, they switched to a box-and-one defense and held him to two points over the final three quarters.
The Cougars (15-6, 4-2) also had a significant edge at the free-throw line, making 12 of 21 attempts. The Bulldogs only had six attempts.
The Bulldogs did make nine three-pointers. Zach Campbell hit four and finished with 14 points and Xavier Battle added two from long range and tallied 12 points.
The Bulldogs (13-8, 4-2) host East Lee County Tuesday.

Gulf Coast 63, Mariner 47: The host Sharks used a 36-22 surge in the second and third quarters to upend the Tritons.
Sam Guerrier sank four three-pointers and ended with 16 points. Clint Johnson tallied nine rebounds and four blocks for the Tritons (10-10, 2-4).
The Tritons travel to North Fort Myers on Tuesday.

North Fort Myers 1, Riverdale 0: Dan Hafer’s goal with less than two minutes remaining lifted North Fort Myers to victory in the final regular season game.
Goalkeeper Chris Hamilton preserved the shutout by making 10 saves for the Red Knights (7-10-2).
North visits Barron Collier at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the District 5A-15 quarterfinals.
Bishop Verot 4, Gulf Coast 1: Mason Weisberg scored three goals on senior night to carry Bishop Verot to victory over Gulf Coast.
Senior goalkeeper Britt Digennaro made nine saves and senior Ryan Kelly dominated the defensive end in front of Digennaro.
The Vikings (15-4-1) play in the District 3A-10 championship game next Friday.
Girls Basketball
Cape Coral 67, North Fort Myers 53: Senior point guard Jardin McCarthy reached the 1,000-point mark for her career and the Seahawks defeated North for the second time this season.
With a game-high 20 points, McCarthy has 1,013 for her career. She connected on four three-pointers.
It was an overall balanced attack for the Seahawks as four players reached double figures. Stephanie De Los Santos added 15, Alexiss Griffin 14 and Christine Gaywood 13.
Suzie McKeever paced the Red Knights with 11.
The Seahawks (15-7) play at Island Coast Wednesday.
Cape hosts South Fort Myers Thursday night in an LCAC crossover game. It is senior night and the team is asking for fans to bring a nonperishable food item to the game to donate to the local food bank.
