PAL boxer earns Silver Gloves shot

1 min read

David Rios will head to Missouri for the National Silver Gloves boxing tournament on Feb. 5 after winning the regional championship earlier this month in Wilmington, N.C.

Rios, a member of the Cape Coral Police Athletic League boxing team, earned his second consecutive regional championship against a field of boxers from Virginia, Maryland, Washington (D.C.), North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

To compete in the regional, fighters had to win their respective state’s championship in December. Rios accomplished that by winning the 119-pound class in the 14-15-year-old division in West Palm Beach. Rios holds several titles earned in the past year.

Brennan Williams, another Cape Coral PAL member, won the 70-pound class state title in the 10-11-year-old division, but lost at the regionals by a close decision.
