FGCU needs rally to top UNF 50-44

FORT MYERS (AP) – Derrick O’Neil scored on a go-ahead layup with one minute left in the game to help Florida Gulf Coast beat North Florida 50-44 Friday night at Alico Arena.

The Eagles (9-12, 5-5 in Atlantic Sun Conference) trailed 26-15 at halftime after making only five field goals and shooting 25 percent from the floor in the first half.

The Eagles shot 50 percent after the break, outscoring North Florida 35-18 en route to the victory.

O’Neil, who scored 10 of his 11 points in the second half, also led FGCU with eight rebounds. He gave the Eagles their first lead of the game at 33-32 on two free throws with 10 minutes left in the second half.

Reggie Chambers scored 11 points for FGCU.

Eni Cuka and Stan Januska each scored 10 points each for North Florida (3-16, 1-8).
