Prep Report: Wave dump Bulldogs 65-57
Fort Myers took control early against Ida Baker and dominated the boards, leading to a 65-57 victory in a District 5A-15 basketball game Wednesday night at Fort Myers.
The Green Wave (11-7, 7-0 district) led 20-8 after the first quarter and 34-21 at halftime. They outrebounded the Bulldogs, 42-23.
Colin Henry led the Wave with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Evin Graham and James Whitfield each added 14 points.
“They played harder than we did,” Baker coach Greg Coleman said.
The Bulldogs (13-7, 5-1) tried to rally in the second half, cutting the lead to six at one point.
Zach Campbell had 15 points, leading four Bulldogs in double figures.

Mariner 66, Cypress Lake 50: Clint Johnson connected for 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked nine shots to lead Mariner to victory over Cypress Lake.
Kameron Beach added 15 points and Sam Guerrier added 10. The Tritons (10-9) visit Gulf Coast Friday.

Cape Coral 64, Gulf Coast 57: Traveling to Collier County tends to be a difficult task, but Cape Coral has found success there this season. The Seahawks won earlier this season at Barron Collier and added a seven-point victory at Gulf Coast.
Yoko Roldan knocked down three three-pointers and finished with 20 points. Wellington Tavarez made 8-of-11 free throws, giving him 15 points.
The Sharks focused their attention on Cape’s leading scorer, Joel Hill, but other players pick up the slack, including point guard Cameron Hall, who chipped in with 11.
The Seahawks (12-5, 3-2) host North Fort Myers Friday.

Boys Soccer
Cape Coral 1, Gateway 0: Fabian Fajardo and Paulo Acosta teamed up in a unique way to lift Cape Coral to a senior night victory over Gateway Charter.
Fajardo, a junior, fired a left-footed rocket at the goal that caromed off the crossbar. Acosta, a sophomore, was there to knock in the rebound for the game-winner with just 16 minutes left.
Goalkeeper Santi Villamil made nine saves to preserve the shutout.
The Seahawks (8-7-4) wrap up the regular season Thursday at Estero.
Mariner 6, Riverdale 0: Tyler Korytkowski scored three goals and added two assists, leading Mariner to an easy victory over Riverdale.
Mikey Cardenas (one goal, two assists) and Julio Perez (two goals) were key to the Tritons’ attack.
Matt Isherwood, Travis Edward, John Teeter and John DiRoma controlled the midfield and backfield.
Senior Renato Proia notched four saves, while sophomore Matt Brust added three saves.
The Tritons (12-8-3) host Evangelical Christian Thursday.
Charlotte 0, North Fort Myers 0: Neither team cracked the net as defense and goaltending dominated.
North’s Chris Hamilton made 10 saves for the Red Knights (6-10-2), who host Riverdale Friday night.
Ida Baker 2, South Fort Myers 1: Yuri Bykau scored off a rebound with 15 minutes left, sending Ida Baker past host South Fort Myers.
Joe Johnson put the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the first half, scoring on an assist from Nick Presti, who also had the assist on Bykau’s goal in the second half.
Goalkeeper Jose Zuniga surrendered one second-half goal, but recorded eight saves.
The Bulldogs (9-7-3) host Cape Coral next Tuesday.
Girls Basketball
Cape Coral 50, Gulf Coast 47: Alexiss Griffin hit a driving layup with 20 seconds remaining to put Cape High in the lead for good and Jomaris Vasquez sank two free throws with eight seconds remaining to seal the Seahawks’ win over Gulf Coast.
Griffin finished with a game-high 22 points with Jardin McCarthy chipping in with 14.
The Seahawks (14-6) play at North Fort Myers Friday.
