FGCU’s Chambers 1st A-Sun freshman to be Player of Week
Florida Gulf Coast University freshman guard Reggie Chambers turned in the best week of the season helping the Eagles record their first three-game win streak as a Division I program.
For his efforts, he was named Tuesday as the first freshman this season to receive the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award.
Chambers, of Miramar, helped the Eagles (8-10) improve to 4-3 in A-Sun play Monday night with a 64-61 upset win over the previously unbeaten East Tennessee State Buccaneers.
In a win over Stetson last week, the 5-foot-9 Chambers collected 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. In the Eagles’ largest conference margin of victory, an 80-56 win over USC Upstate, Chambers garnered 16 points, four assists and three steals.
He knocked down 14 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists and hit the game-winning three-point basket with 37 seconds left to complete Monday’s comeback victory over ETSU.
