Prep Report: Tritons trip up Seahawks

4 min read

One goal is all it took for the Mariner Tritons to knock off crosstown rival Cape Coral 1-0 Thursday at Tony McKenna Field.

Colt Masters’ touch shot with 17 minutes remaining in the first half proved to be the game-winner. The play was set up by Matt Isherwood’s steal and long push up the field. It ended with Isherwood’s leading pass that Masters beat the defense and the keeper in a race to the ball.

Tritons goalkeeper Renato Proia made seven saves, including three in the final two minutes of the first half to preserve the 1-0 lead. It is the third victory for the Tritons (10-8-3) this week.

Jonathan DiRoma, John Teeter, Travis Edward and David Steeb contributed to the team victory with their midfield and defensive play.

Both teams are idle until next week’s LCAC crossover matches.
