Prep Report: Raiders flatten Tritons
The overall youth of the Mariner High wrestling team showed against Riverdale Wednesday night as the Raiders invaded Frank Morris Gymnasium and soundly defeated the Tritons 65-10.
Mariner wrestlers won just two of the 14 weight divisions. Senior Max Phillips pinned Riverdale’s Zak Katine in 2:11 in the 119-pound match while sophomore Basil Minto scored a 13-1 decision in the 145-pound match.
The Tritons put just two seniors out on the mat this season – Phillips and 130-pounder Ryan Barker. The rest are freshmen and sophomores.
Behind Phillips and Barker, the Tritons are getting the most help from sophomores Minto, Brett Hurt (125) and Luke Yurich (160).
Riverdale’s JV team pinned a defeat on the Tritons identical to the varsity match, 65-10.
The Tritons’ next mat time is Saturday in Naples at the Barron Collier Invitational.
