Prep Report: Lott sparks Tritons

Matt Lott scored two goals and assisted on the third goal as Mariner blanked East Lee County 3-0 Tuesday night.

Tyler Korytkowski had the Tritons’ other goal while Travis Edward had an assist in addition to outstanding midfield play.

Matt Isherwood and Jonathan DiRoma were solid defensively in front of goalkeeper Renato Proia, who registered three saves for his sixth shutout of the season.

Mariner (9-8-3) hosts Cape High Thursday at Tony McKenna Field.

Cape Coral 3, Cypress Lake 2: Cape overcame 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to defeat Cypress Lake.

Zach Sheffield scored an unassisted goal with 18 minutes left, giving the Seahawks the lead for good.

Freshman Kevin Lopera scored his first career goal on an assist from Alex Russell, and Caio Amaral had the other Seahawk goal on a penalty kick.

Santi Villamil made nine saves.

Cape (6-6-4) heads to Mariner Thursday.

Lehigh 2, Ida Baker 1: Joe Johnson scored the lone goal for the host Bulldogs, who fell to Lehigh, on the heels of an emotional 1-0 victory Monday over Cape Coral.

Following the theme of the night, the Bulldog players wore pink armbands and ankle bands, showing their support for breast cancer awareness.

“It’s tremendous anytime you can do something to raise awareness for cancer,” Baker coach Mick Whitewood said. “We just wanted to do our part to help out.”

Baker (8-5-3) plays North Fort Myers Thursday.

Boys Basketball

Baker 63, Lehigh 43: In a battle of unbeaten District 5A-12 teams, the visiting Bulldogs pulled away from the Lightning (11-3, 3-1).

Zach Campbell led the Bulldogs (9-6, 4-0) with 12 points, seven assists, three steals and five blocks.

John Skinner led four Baker players in double figures, finishing with 15 points.

Gabe Rodriguez added 10 steals to go with 14 points and Xavier Battle tallied 10 points and nine assists.

Girls Soccer

Mariner 9, East Lee County 0: Alyssa Barry scored three goals leading the host Tritons to a convincing win over East Lee County.

Rebecca Smith also contributed two goals. Tara Christie, Brittany Harris, Courtney Prude and Brooke Albert each added one.

The Tritons (10-6-1) play at Cape Coral Thursday.

Cypress Lake 3, Cape Coral 0: Senior goalkeeper Shelby Rowe made five saves, but the Seahawks were shut out by Cypress Lake.

The Seahawks (3-9-4) are back in action Wednesday when they host Riverdale.

North Fort Myers 2, Fort Myers 1: Mariah Fernandez scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second half, to lift North Fort Myers over Fort Myers.

Fernandez’s second goal came about 10 minutes after Fort Myers tied the game at 1-1.

Tina Agostinelli and Ashley LaPierre each had an assist and goalkeeper Brianna Abatisti made eight saves.

North (8-9) hosts Ida Baker Thursday.

Bishop Verot 3, Riverdale 0: A penalty kick in the first 15 minutes and two more in the last five minutes carried Bishop Verot past Riverdale.

Kayley Clay, Kady Otzko and McKenna Duquette accounted for the Vikings’ three goals. Duquette also had an assist.

The Vikings (6-4-1) play again at Dunbar Thursday night.

Girls Basketball

Cape Coral 47, Cypress Lake 45: Jardin McCarthy and Christine Gaywood each made clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter as Cape High held off Cypress Lake.

McCarthy led the way with 15 points, including three three-pointers, and Alexiss Griffin chipped in with 14.

The Seahawks (12-5) host Mariner Friday.

Jody Arciniega scored 26 points to lead the Lightning. Brooke Bursiek paced the Bulldogs (5-9) with 10.

Baker travels to North Fort Myers Thursday.

Bishop Verot 76, Charlotte 16: Cici Ward finished with 18 points and five steals, Taylor Kramer had 17 points and six steals, as host Bishop Verot hammered Charlotte.
