2 min read

The Ida Baker boys’ soccer team suffered a disappointing loss in the opening game of the Southwest Florida Winter Invitational at Golden Gate, but bounced back with a much more sound performance on Saturday.

The Bulldogs got two goals and an assist from Joe Johnson in a 4-2 victory over LaBelle. They opened tournament play Friday with a 4-0 setback against South Fort Myers.

“We had a chance to warmup (more) and get some touches before Saturday’s match and I think that made a difference,” Baker coach Mick Whitewood said.

The Bulldogs (7-5-3) hope to build off that performance as they resume District 5A-12 play Monday night. The Bulldogs host city rival Cape Coral.

Nick Presti and Jonathan Alvarez each scored goals, contributing to the win over LaBelle. Goalkeeper Jose Zuniga made 11 saves.
