Prep report: Tritons surge past Indians
Juniors Kameron Beach and Ricardo Barsesa led the host Mariner Tritons to their second straight victory in the Christmas Tournament at Mariner.
After defeating Riverdale Saturday, Mariner advanced to the championship game with a 70-56 win over Immokalee Monday night.
The Tritons held a 29-28 halftime lead but then took control. Beach scored 13 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, while Barsesa had 12 of his 20 in the final two quarters.
“Both of those guys did a lot better job of being strong with the basketball (in the second half,” Tritons coach James Harris said.
Beach, who finished with nine rebounds, also led the Tritons with 22 points in their victory over Riverdale Saturday.
“He’s done a really good job scoring for us,” Harris said. “He takes the ball to the hole and finishes.”
Mariner (7-6-3) advances to the championship game Tuesday against Clewiston. Clewiston defeated Palmetto Ridge 67-65 Monday. They championship game is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

n Mariner 2, Coconut Creek 0: For the second straight match in the Adidas Palm Beach Invitational, the Mariner Tritons got strong defensive play and goaltending.
This time they had the offense, too. Tyler Korytkowski and Julio Perez each scored goals in the Tritons 2-0 victory over Coconut Creek. The Tritons conclude tournament play Tuesday.
They began Saturday with a 1-0 loss to Cocoa.
Senior goalkeepr Renato Proia registered the shutout in that match but the Tritons (7-6-3) fell 4-3 in penalty kicks.
Proia stopped five shots Monday to record his sixth shutout of the year. Juan Rincon had an assist in the contest.
