Mariner High’s girls’ soccer team stopped a recent slide while Ida Baker added another solid performance Monday night as both squads recorded shutout victories over county district rivals.

Mariner 2, North Fort Myers 0: An early goal was all the offense the Mariner Tritons needed against North Fort Myers.

Alyssa Barry scored the game-winner in the first 15 minutes off an assist from Brooke Albert. Brittany Harris tacked on some insurance with a direct kick goal over the goalkeeper’s head from 40 yards out.

Tritons goalkeeper Brittany Steeb made the shutout stand up with 10 saves. Red Knights goalkeeper Shanna Manel had five saves.

The Red Knights (7-7) host Cypress Lake Tuesday night. The Tritons (7-4-1) host Fort Myers Thursday night.

Ida Baker 2, Fort Myers 0: Payton Van Horn put Ida Baker on top for good with a first-half goal off an assist from Autumn Yesh.

Renee Pratt gave the Bulldogs some breathing room with a goal in the second half off an assist from Christine Giles. Goalkeeper Libby Schuls made the advantage hold up with five saves.

Baker takes an 11-3-2 record into Tuesday’s game at home against Cape Coral.

Girls Basketball

Fort Myers 53, Ida Baker 29: Brooke Bursiek scored a game-high 16 points, but it was the only highlight for the Bulldogs in Baker’s loss to Fort Myers.

The Bulldogs (4-5) host Cape Coral Tuesday night.

Mariner 88, North Fort Myers 74: Junior Clint Johnson poured in a career-high 28 and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds to help propel Mariner to victory over North Fort Myers.

The Red Knights were led by junior Mike Malaise with 26 points.

The Tritons (2-7) face Riverdale Saturday in the first round of the Mariner Christmas Tournament.

Boys Soccer

Mariner 1, North Fort Myers 1 (tie): A defensive lapse in the final 10 minutes cost Mariner a victory, forcing the Tritons to settle for a one-goal tie with North Fort Myers.

Juan Rincon was in the right spot near the goalpost in the first half when Tyler Korytkowski sent him a perfect crossing pass for the Tritons’ only goal.

North netted the tying goal on a midfield transition as Scott Belbeck delivered a pass to Evan Sargent, who outraced the defense to the ball score.

Mariner goalkeeper Renato Proia otherwise made six saves while North keeper Chris Hamilton had 11 saves.

The Red Knights (3-8-1) visit Cypress Lake Tuesday night. The Tritons (5-6-3) play at Ida Baker Wednesday night.
