Skies open up on Sr. Games
Rains doused the Florida Senior Games State Championships Thursday shortening the cycling 20K and 40K road races in Cape Coral and cancelling the men’s and women’s doubles tennis matches at Florida Gulf Coast University.
The 20K road race went off as planned at 9 a.m. and finished in the rain. The 40K road race started in a torrential downpour and was called prior to completion.
The wet weather also affected the timing system slowing tabulation of the results.
When results are received, they will be posted at www.flasports.com.
Tennis doubles matches will be made up Friday.
Friday’s schedule of events includes basketball shooting at Estero Community Park, mixed doubles billiards at Diamond Billiards in Cape Coral, and men’s and women’s tennis doubles at FGCU and Three Oaks Community Park.
The day concludes with the annual Celebration of Athletes at Estero Community Park. It’s the only time athletes of all sports of the State Champion-ships gather in one location.
Claudette Braswell of Lake Wales, the 2007 Florida Senior Games State Championships Female Athlete of the Year, will light the ceremonial torch and athletes will be treated to music by the Del Prados and Florida Fusion.
