Bishop Verot came out firing while Ida Baker misfired Wednesday night on the Bulldogs’ home court.

The Bulldogs mounted a comeback late in the game, but it was too little too late as the Vikings claimed a 65-48 victory.

“We did not play bad defensively,” said Bulldogs coach Greg Coleman. “We just started slowly and did not have much left at the end.”

Etienne Effenberg topped all scorers with 29 points for the Vikings (4-1) with Brennan Melvin chipping in with 16 points. Abner Sandoval didn’t score, but pulled down 10 rebounds.

Ron Ward and Gabe Rodriguez led the Bulldogs (5-3) with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Ward also had eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs visit crosstown rival Mariner Friday night while the Vikings play again Saturday against Winter Park in Orlando.
