Ida Baker 2, North Fort Myers 0: Two first-half goals was all the Baker Bulldogs needed to register a District 5A-15 win over North.
Autumn Yesh picked up a carom off the crossbar and tapped it into the net for the first goal. Christine Giles added an insurance goal from close range later in the half off a leading pass behind the defense from Jordan Goffar.
Goalkeeper Natalia Ortiz recorded her third shutout by making 10 saves. North keeper Brianna Abitisti was credited with five saves.
Baker (8-3-2, 4-1-1 district) hosts Mariner in a key district matchup Friday night. North (6-6, 3-3) travels to Charlotte Thursday night.
Barron Collier 3, Mariner 2: Brooke Albert and Brittany Harris each scored first-half goals, but the host Tritons were unable to finish off Barron Collier.
The Cougars, the defending district champs, rallied from a 2-1 deficit.
Mariner’s first goal by Albert was set up by Kelsey Whitaker. Harris scored later on a penalty kick. Mariner goalkeeper Brittany Steeb made 22 saves.
Mariner (6-3-1) visits Baker Friday.
Cardinal Mooney 1, Bishop Verot 0: Goals have been elusive for the Bishop Verot Vikings lately. Tuesday’s game at Cardinal Mooney was more of the same as the Vikings lost by a one-goal margin.
“We controlled the came throughout and did everything except score,” said Vikings coach Randy Zavada.
The Vikings outshot their hosts 12-5, but Mooney scored the game’s only goal on a breakaway with a mere 30 seconds left in the first half.
Verot goalkeeper Amber Law saved the other four shots. The Vikings (3-4-1) visit Port Charlotte Thursday night.
