Blades playing sharp on road
Despite being on a nine-game, three-week long road trip, the Florida Everblades have continued their strong play.
The Blades (11-2-1) defeated host Reading 4-0 Friday night, extending their win streak to 10 games.
They exploded for three goals in the second period and added one in the third.
“The guys are just playing really well right now,” coach Malcolm Cameron said earlier this week, “They are following the game plan and executing it well.”
If you break down exactly how the Everblades have played on this road trip, those are understatements to the highest degree.
They started the road trip with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Augusta Lynx last Friday and followed that up with a record-setting 12-0 blowout of the Lynx Saturday night.
They handed the Gwinnet Gladiators a 5-0 loss Tuesday night.
Entering Friday’s game against Reading, 15 players had notched at least one point, led by Kevin Baker (six goals and four assists). The return of Jacob Micflikier from the AHL (four goals and five assists in two games) has given them a boost.
Florida has also been strong on defense. Goaltender Anton Khudobin notched back-to back-shutouts. While on the penalty kill, the Blades had stopped 18-of-19 of their opponent’s one-man advantages and had only allowed 64 shots on goal in the three road games, while firing off 115 shots.
Add it all up and it’s clear the Everblades have developed good chemistry.
They’ll have to keep it going, though, as the Blades won’t return to Germain Arena until Dec. 12.
