The Mariner High girls’ soccer team won a pair of matches and the host Tritons claimed second at Saturday’s Triton Invitational.

The early-season event featured six teams, including Mariner, Ida Baker and Cypress Lake. Each school played three matches and the champion was determined based on overall record and goal differential.

Newsome High went 3-0 to finish first. The Tritons went 2-1, picking up wins over Wharton and Brandon.

Alyssa Barry, Emily Durham and Brittany Harris were among the goal scorers for the Tritons. Goalkeeper Brittany Steeb allowed only three goals in the three matches.

Mariner (4-2) plays at Lehigh Monday.

Girls Basketball

n Bishop Verot 62, Venice 54: Junior Allie Mitchell had 25 points and three steals, leading the host Vikings past Venice Saturday.

Cici Ward chipped in 10 points and three assists for the Vikings (2-1).
