A penalty kick converted by Guillermo Duque late in the second half earned Cape Coral a 2-2 tie with District 5A-15 rival Gulf Coast Thursday night in Naples.

Andrew Torres put the Seahawks on the scoreboard first, scoring off an assist from Kenny Segura. The score held up for a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Gulf Coast came back in the second half to score two quick goals, one on a penalty kick and the other off a corner kick.

That put the Seahawks in catch-up mode the rest of the way. Duque’s score with just over 12 minutes remaining leveled the score. Goalkeeper Nico Rubio made 11 saves to preserve the tie.

The Seahawks take a 3-1-1 record overall (2-0-1 district) into their next action which comes in a Thanksgiving tournament Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at North Port.

Fort Myers 2, Ida Baker 1: Joe Johnson’s goal in the first half put Ida Baker on top, but Fort Myers rallied for a pair of goals in the second half to beat the Bulldogs.

The Green Wave won the game on a penalty kick goal in the 70th minute.

Jose Zuniga made 14 saves in goal for the Bulldogs (3-2), who host Cypress Lake Friday night.

North Fort Myers 6, East Lee County 1: Five different players scored goals to guide North Fort Myers to victory at East Lee County.

Scott Belbeck had two of the Red Knights’ goals, and two assists, while Jonatan Orellana, Trey Yeatter and Dillion Wittwer each had one goal. Casey Perkowski contributed one goal and one assist while goalkeeper Chris Hamilton made three saves to post the win.

The Red Knights (2-3) visit Gulf Coast Monday night.

Bishop Verot 2, Gateway Charter 0: Goalkeeper Ryan Linden only had to make four saves to register a shutout for Bishop Verot against Gateway Charter.

Brendan Abernathy and Matt DeSanctis each had a goal for the Vikings (2-2), who host North Fort Myers Tuesday night.

Girls Soccer

Cape Coral 1, Gateway Charter 1: Nina Antonacci scored Cape High’s only goal in a tie with Gateway Charter.

Goalkeeper Shelby Rowe made 10 saves for the Seahawks, who host Ida Baker Monday night.

Boys Basketball

Ida Baker 75, Gateway Charter 49: Rob Serrano pitched in a team-high 22 points to lead a trio of double-figure scorers that carried Ida Baker to a preseason victory in the Mariner Classic.

John Skinner added 17 points and Gabe Rodriguez posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Xavier Battle handed out seven assists.

The Bulldogs, who led from the outset, broke open a nine-point game with a 30-8 surge in the third quarter.

Baker makes its regular-season debut Tuesday night on its home floor against Cypress Lake.

Cape Coral 67, Evangelical Christian 38: Cape High rolled over ECS in a preseason conclusion game at The Nest.

Yoko Roldan paced the Seahawks with 19 points, including five three-point baskets. Joel Hill added 12 points and six rebounds while James McIntyre chipped in with 12 points.

The Seahawks open the regular season next Friday night at Lemon Bay.
