Florida Firecats head coach Kevin Bouis and quarterback Chris Wallace will be honored Saturday during the YMCA National Sports Gala at the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort Hotel.

The gala recognizes professional and amateur athletes, coaches and administrators who have made significant contributions to the world of sports.

Bouis began his career in 2002 with Florida as defensive coordinator. Since being named head coach in ’04 he has guided the Firecats to a 50-20 record in the arenafootball2 (af2) league.

Defense has been the Firecats’ strength every season under Bouis. They have allowed an average of 39.7 points per game, among the league’s best, from 2002-08.

Wallace has thrown for 15,137 yards and 337 touchdowns since joining the team in ’04. In 2006, he became the first af2 QB to throw for 100 touchdowns in a single season. Wallace set new league career records with 484 TD passes and 1,797 completions last season.

Other sports figures to be recognized include tennis champion Johan Kriek, USOC member Dr. Fay Biles, FGCU baseball coach Dave Tollet, Naples High football coach Bill Kramer and former NFL players Don Healy, Levar Fisher, and Herman Weaver. Each honoree will be presented the National Sports Achievement Medal.
