Seahawks edge Tritons
It didn’t matter that the season is less than two weeks old. When Cape Coral and Mariner meet on the soccer field, an epic struggle is sure to break out.
Thursday night at Cape’s Dave Warkentin Stadium was no different. The Seahawks opened a 2-0 lead, and the Tritons fought back to tie it up.
Kenny Segura headed in a corner kick from Fabian Fajardo late in the second half to earn Cape High a 3-2 victory.
“We played well in the first half,” said Tritons coach Martin Cardenas. “We just need more discipline and learn that it’s not a 40 minute game. We haven’t put together a full game yet.”
Kaio Amaral put the Seahawks on top with a goal off an assist from Paolo Acosta. Shane Pacheco scored on an assist from Guillermo Duque for a 2-0 lead.
The Tritons came back to tie it with second-half goals from Cristian Marin and Tyler Korytkowski, but surrendered the game-winner to slip to 0-2-1 on the season. Stephan Williams and Kyle Turner had assists for the Tritons and goalkeeper Renato Proia made five saves.
Freshman keeper Rush Manterola had 10 saves for the Seahawks (2-0), who host Cypress Lake Monday.
