Tritons surge to 37-21 win

1 min read

PORT CHARLOTTE — There were many mistakes Friday night, and just as many opportunities for the Pirates to correct them. Unfortunately for Port Charlotte, it wasn’t their night in more ways than one.

Leading 21-17 heading into the final quarter, the Pirates allowed Mariner to reel off 20 unanswered points to grab a 37-21 victory and put a damper on homecoming festivities.

The Tritons (2-3) scored from 8, 5 and 6 yards out, in a fourth quarter in which they were challenged little by the Pirates defense.

In the first half, Mariner had runs of 24, 20 and 19 yards, but little to show for them. The Tritons (2-3) were 11 yards from a score with 14 seconds left in the half when the Pirates intercepted quarterback Gabriel Rojas pass to end the threat.
