The Florida Everblades ended their first week of training camp Friday night with an impressive 7-0 preseason victory over the Phoenix Road Runners at Germain Arena.

Rookie goaltender David Leggio earned the shutout by making 18 saves, including nine in the first six minutes of play. The Everblades’ defense stifled the Road Runners for the remaining 54 minutes, holding them to a total of three shots in the second period and six in the third.

The Everblades picked up two goals each from Justin Bowers, who also chipped in a pair of assists, and Danick Bouchard. Aaron Brocklehurst, Ernie Hartlieb and Andrew Fournier added the other goals.

Brocklehust broke the scoring ice 4:10 into the first period on the Blades’ first shot on a one-timing pass into the slot by Riley Emmerson. Bowers opened a 2-0 lead at 11:54, blasting a drop pass from Andrew Fournier past Phoenix net-minder Ryan Daniels from the top of the left circle.

The Everblades kept the pressure on in the second period using special teams to add three more goals to their total.

Hartlieb got in on the scoring fun letting a wrist shot go from the left circle that got under the Daniels’ pads.

The pace slowed in the final period, but the Blades tacked on two more goals.

The teams wrap up preseason play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
