Ida Baker hoped to ride the momentum of Monday’s dramatic, come-from-behind win over Naples Lely into their match Tuesday against District 5A-15 power Fort Myers.

The Bulldogs (9-5, 6-2 district), despite being an emerging team, were unable to close the gap against the visiting Green Wave, falling 25-19, 25-11, 25-10.

The Green Wave (16-1, 9-0) bounced back from their first loss of the season Monday against Bishop Verot. The Green Wave lost a three-game battle of unbeatens.

“It was good that we had a game right away just to get it out of our system,” Fort Myers coach Stephanie Martin said.

The Bulldogs had won six of their last eight matches, including Monday’s match against Lely. They charged back after dropping the first two games.

In front of a spirited home crowd Tuesday, the Bulldogs played hard throughout, but as each game progressed the Green Wave’s superior execution prevailed.

After the Wave grabbed the first two games, Baker hung tough in game three. They trailed only 10-8 after a shot by Chelsea Shafer.

The Green Wave took control, though, thanks to a strong effort from 6-foot-2 Kaitlin Holm. She pounded three kills in the finishing stretch and posted 20 for the match.

Jessica Potanovic added 10 kills and Courtney Greenberg tallied 28 assists for the Wave.

The Bulldogs return to action Thursday at Cypress Lake.

North Fort Myers 3, East Lee County 0: Strong serving paved the way for the host Red Knights in a three-game sweep of East Lee County 25-10, 25-12, 25-17.

Paige Engh led the attack with nine service aces. Alyssa Dougherty chipped in with eight aces and Lindsey Tryon added six.

The Red Knights (6-11) host Fort Myers in their next match on Monday.
