Rookie forwards Justin Bowers and Dan Travis signed contracts Tuesday, joining the Florida Everblades direct from the college ranks.

Bowers comes to Florida after spending the last two seasons in Canada with the St. Thomas University Tommies. He led the Tommies in goals (15), assists (24) and points (39) in 28 games last season.

“Justin is coming off two strong years at St. Thomas,” Everblades coach Malcolm Cameron said. “Justin has good hands, is a good power play player and has good size. Although he’ll be coming in as a rookie, he’s gaining valuable experience right now by attending training camp with the AHL’s Quad City Flames.”

Travis, 24, comes in after four years in the college ranks. The last two seasons he skated with the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Travis finished off last season with 21 points (12g, 9a) in 37 games.

“Dan is someone we’re real excited about seeing in Florida,” Cameron said. “He’s a big, strong power forward who drives to the net hard. He plays hard, and, like Bowers, he is gaining experience right now by skating in the AHL’s Worcester Sharks training camp.”

Travis was a fifth-round draft pick of the Florida Panthers in 2003.

The Ever-blades open the 2008-09 ECHL season on Oct. 17 at Germain Arena when they host the Charlotte Checkers.
