Bulldogs sink city golf rival

City rivals clashed for the first time Thursday afternoon at Palmetto Pine Country Club with Ida Baker claiming a 17-stroke victory over Cape Coral High.

The win gives the unbeaten Bulldogs (5-0) wins over both Cape and Mariner so far this season. The Bulldogs and Seahawks (1-3) go at it again next Tuesday at Royal Tee Golf Club with North Fort Myers making it a threesome.

Baker’s Todd Mallorey, Cody Byers and Michael Faulkner turned in matching medalist scores of 41 to lead a 169-186 victory.

The Bulldog trio shared the honor with Cape’s Tyler Trent, whose 41 is a personal-best in a competitive round.

Cape Coral 186 — Tyler Trent 41, H. Halvorsen 46, Nick Dekeyser 49, Tim McBride 50.

Ida Baker 169 — Todd Mallorey 41, Cody Byers 41, Mike Faulkner 41, Alan Schwocho 46.

At Coral Oaks Golf Course: Mariner picked up two wins in a tri-match with North Fort Myers and East Lee County.

Led by Braden Junkins’ medalist round of 39, the Tritons outscored North 161-174. With just three players, East Lee did not get a team score.

Mariner’s C.J. Cricco was one stroke behind Junkins at 40 while Grant Burgess and Spencer McKee each added 41.

Joey Caiazza led North with 40.

The Tritons (4-1) face Cypress Lake Tuesday at Cypress Lake Country Club.

At Plantation: Bishop Verot notched its first victory of the season with a 155-186 win over South Fort Myers.

Chase Marinell led the Vikings (1-1) with a medal-winning score of 37 that just edged teammates Jack Hernandez and Austin Lee by one stroke. Alex Felice carded a 39 to lead South Fort Myers.

The Vikings take on Canterbury Thursday at Shell Point.

Girls Golf

At Royal Tee Golf Club: North Fort Myers picked up its first two victories of the season at the expense of Mariner and East Lee County.

North garnered 232, led by Emily Yi’s medalist round of 41 and Brittany Agricola’s 46. Mariner tallied 281, led by Madison Fletcher with a 58.

North (2-1) faces Gulf Coast and Cape Coral Tuesday.

North Fort Myers 232 — Emily Yi 41, Brittany Agricola 46, Brittany Sansoussi 70, Ashley Beckos 75.

East Lee County N/S — Jessica Horner 52.

Volleyball

Cape Coral 3, Lehigh 0: Shelby Rowe and Lindsey Turner each served nine aces and smashed five kills to propel Cape Coral to its first victory of the season 25-14, 25-13, 25-13.

Erica Hoegler added seven aces and Cassie Maselter contributed five kills.

The Seahawks (1-1) returns to action Monday at Gateway Charter.

Ida Baker 3, East Lee County 0: After dropping a season-opening match to Palmetto Ridge Wednesday, Baker won all three games at East Lee County 25-13, 25-16, 25-13.

Junior Taylor Van Horn recorded five kills, and junior Deonna Findley tallied 11 assists.

The Bulldogs served well, getting 12 aces from junior Chelsea Cline and seven aces from freshman Brenna Hambsch.

The Bulldogs (1-1) visit Cape High Tuesday.
