Dougherty leads Baker to team win

Junior Miko Dougherty gave the Ida Baker boys’ golf team a lift Tuesday in a season-opening victory over Port Charlotte and Hardee County. She shot a 41 and finished as co-medalist with Ryan Gallick of Port Charlotte.

Baker’s team of Dougherty, Ryan Gallick, Michael Faulkner and Todd Mallory combined for a score of 171. Port Charlotte was second with 174, and Hardee County finished with 187.

Dougherty won the Henke/Berg Jr. Masters Tournament during the summer. Last year, she was a member of the Baker girls’ team which won the District 2A-15 championship.

Bulldogs coach Scott Conforte said overall it was a positive start for his team.

Gallick and Faulkner each shot 43 and Mallory carded a 44.
