In a battle of the top two teams in the Florida State League, round one went to the Palm Beach Cardinals who scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to top the Fort Myers Miracle 4-3 Thursday night at Hammond Stadium.

Andrew Brown led Palm Beach with a double, a pair of singles and an RBI.

Brown started the second inning with a double off the wall in center. With runners at the corners and one out, Like Gorsett’s ground ball to third appeared to be an inning-ending double play, but Gorsett beat Brian Dinkelman’s relay throw to first as Brown scored the game’s first run.

Danny Santiestiban’s solo homer in the fifth evened the score, but the Cardinals (29-18) responded a half-inning later with three runs, two unearned, to seal the win.

The Miracle (30-17) capitalized on a Cardinal error in the sixth crawl back within one run. Dinkelman walked and a two-out single by Juan Portes set the table for an RBI single by Whit Robbins. The Miracle scored their final run on a throwing error on Edward Ovalle’s ground ball.

The Miracle and Cardinals take the field again at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
