Fernandez wins girls’ junior golf event

Jackie Fernandez of Cape Coral won the girls’ overall division championship over the weekend with a 36-hole score of 157 in the South Florida PGA Junior Tour event at West Bay Club in Estero.
Fernandez, who graduated early from Ida Baker High School, was three shots better than runner-up Christina Ocampo of Delray Beach. Paulina Mustafa of Weston placed third in a scorecard playoff with fourth-place Jessica Brinkman of Palm Springs, both at 168.
In the boys’ 12-13 year-old division, Ryan Celano of Naples claimed the title with a 159 total, winning the division by 10 strokes. Jake Sherwin of Cape Coral placed third at 171,
Brant Peaper of Tequesta carded rounds of 73-74 to win the boys’ overall title by one stroke over Matthew Cahill of Boca Raton. Ernesto Marin of Miami was third four strokes back.
Grant Burgess of Cape Coral placed eighth in the boys’ 16-18 division and tied for 14th in the boys’ overall.
The SFPGA Junior Tour’s next stop is June 12-13 at Addison Reserve in Delray Beach.
BIA inshore fishing tourney a success
The Lee Building Industry Association’s inaugural Bricks & Sticks inshore fishing tournament conducted out of Tarpon Point Marina May 9-10 was hailed as a huge success by organizers.
Anglers fished for two snook, two redfish and two ladyfish (total length, photo release).
The Stokes Marine team took the $5,000 first-place prize, followed by ServPro ($3,000), Screenprint Plus ($2,000) and Outback Steakhouse ($1,000).
